December 25, 1776, America was in the midst of the Revolutionary War, and losing. The turning point came that night in a surprise attack against Hessian forces in Trenton, New Jersey. Washington and his troops silenty crossed the river and suprised the enemy troops Christmas Day, and turning around momentum in the war. Paintings of that night have become American icons.
